Our history
Our history
Certain QMS did not begin as a start-up idea. It grew out of thirty years of building and running software in Sandnes, Norway, and out of fifteen years of quality and HSE systems in daily use in Norwegian industry, healthcare and energy.
The system is developed and operated by Netpower Business Solutions AS, part of Netpower IT Group. It has carried the name Certain QMS since January 2026; before that it was known in Norway as Netpower Kvalitet.
Thirty years, eight chapters
Productify. Reinvest. Repeat. That has been Netpower’s recipe since 1995.
1995
The beginning
Netpower is founded in Sandnes by local entrepreneurs as an internet access provider for businesses — hence the name. From day one we run our own servers for our customers, and hosting and operations become a core business that stays with us to this day.
2000s
From internet access to software
Netpower grows from internet provider into a supplier of hosting, websites and bespoke IT systems. Customers keep asking for software that does not exist yet, so we start building it. That instinct — see a real need, build a real product — still decides what goes into Certain QMS.
2006
Erlend Bruvik becomes the owner
Erlend Bruvik, who has run IT businesses since 1995, acquires Netpower. Software development across his group is progressively consolidated in the Netpower companies in Sandnes, and Netpower becomes the group’s home for line-of-business systems, development and operations.
2010
From projects to products: Netpower Kvalitet
The quality and HSE portfolio is productified under the name Netpower Kvalitet: document management, non-conformance handling, risk assessment and chemical management in one system rather than four projects.
Oslo University Hospital is a long-standing customer, and still is today. From there the system grows into what you now know as Certain QMS.
2020
Workplace Safety is launched, and the group goes global
Workplace Safety is launched as a dedicated solution for chemical safety and HSE, built on the same foundations. In the same year SDS Manager joins Netpower IT Group, and the group opens offices in the USA and Bangladesh alongside Norway and Vietnam.
2024
ChemCenter is presented at ONS
ChemCenter, our sister product for chemical management offshore, is presented at ONS in Stavanger. It is built on the same chemical management experience that sits inside Certain QMS, and it keeps the group’s engineering close to the industries we serve.
2025
Netpower turns 30
Netpower IT Group consists of three companies in Sandnes, each with its own CEO, and more than 120 employees. We still run our customers’ solutions in our own data centre in Sandnes, just as we did in 1995.
January 2026
Netpower Kvalitet becomes Certain QMS
The product takes the name Certain QMS. Same system, same team, same data and the same roadmap — a name that works outside Norway as well as inside it. Existing customers keep everything they had; only the logo on the login page changed.
Independent. Norwegian-owned. Built to last.
Netpower IT Group is privately held and has been owned by Erlend Bruvik since 2006. There is no venture capital and there are no outside investors, so there is no pressure to raise prices or cut support.
Each year the profit goes back into the products and the people who build them. That is how the company has been built for thirty years: independent, and with a long-term view of what customers need next.
Our headquarters are at Stokkamyrveien 13, 4313 Sandnes, Norway — office, data centre and development team under one roof. Certain QMS is hosted in Netpower’s own data centre in Sandnes.
Certain QMS is the platform our customers use for their own work towards ISO 9001 and ISO 27001, and for risk management following the ISO 31000 guidance. Certification can apply to the customer’s management system under ISO 9001 or ISO 27001. ISO 31000 provides guidance and is not a certification standard.
Netpower Business Solutions AS, the company behind Certain QMS, is itself certified to ISO 27001 for information security.
